Getting Ready

What to Wear?
We encourage simple, solid colors - usually bright or dark colors work best. A simple pattern such as a plaid or low contrast stripe can work as a highlight - say under a jacket or on a scarf. You might check to see which background your school has chosen and decide what will work best. For instance, if the background is lighter, a white shirt will look lost and the portrait will look flat. If the background is very dark, a black shirt may have a similar effect. Jewelry should be simple - just like clothing, patterns and multiple small details get lost and draw attention away from the subject.

Let's Talk About Smiles!
As a general practice, we will do our best to encourage your student to have a happy, balanced smile. We tell jokes (maybe lame ones!), we ask silly questions; we try! If you prefer no smile or anything specific, please notate that on your order form!

What About Glasses?
Think ahead of time about whether or not you'd like your student to wear their glasses in the portrait. It is super helpful for us if you can notate this on your order form! If glasses are desired, we may request one photo without them in case we need to correct for glare later (it's easier to correct if we have an image of the eye area without the glare in the way). At the end of the day - go with what makes your student feel themselves and feel comfortable!
Will there be retakes?
In most cases, there will be a second picture date that is reserved especially for those that could not attend the first date. Sometimes availability for a retake is dependent on school policy - check with us to ask about specific details for your picture day.
Is Retouching included?
Basic retouching is always included! If you have a specific request, please let us know and we can discuss on a case by case basis!
